Welcome to PreK-4!
I am very happy and excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I hold a a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and am NYS certified N-6. I also hold a Master’s degree in reading and am NYS certified N-12. I have taught in both public and private schools in classroom and remedial settings. This will be my 29th year at BSS! In my free time I like to knit, crochet, read, garden, travel and spend time with my black lab, “Gus”.
All parent/teacher communication will take place on the Bloomz app. Teacher-Parent messaging will also take place on Bloomz. I look forward to working with you and your child this year and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of their early learning. In addition I can be reached at via email.
All classwork as well as our class blog will be on the Seesaw app. Individual student codes for Seesaw have been provided to parents. PreK-4 curriculum follows the NYS Next Generation Standards for early learning.
PreK-4 is taught through an integrated, multi-sensory, play based learning center approach. We have weekly themes, whole group, small group and 1-1 instruction. Our religion program is taught through the Benziger “Stories of God’s Love” program. This is a program designed specifically for 4 year olds. Our science and social studies is taught through the Scholastic “Big World Magazine”. We also engage in simple science experiments and STEM projects. PreK-4 receives Spanish, PE, Computers, Art and Music in addition to our regular program.
Daily recess and playtime is provided as well.
Assessment Policy
PreK-4 students are given a report card 3 times a year. A baseline assessment is completed in October and then this assessment will be repeated quarterly to assess growth. A grading rubric and parent assessment letter will be provided with the report card to help explain the grading system.
Homework Policy
All homework in PreK-4 is done on the Seesaw app. Weekly activities will be posted that go along with our class themes. These activities are optional but encouraged. They support basic skills being taught in class and are short, interactive and fun. When there is a birthday in class students will be asked to video themselves on Seesaw leaving a birthday greeting. Birthday greetings are required of all students so no one feels left out.
